El ganador de dos premios Cy Young y uno de los mejores lanzadores de las Grandes Ligas en las últimas dos décadas, Roy Halladay, falleció este martes a sus 40 años, cuando su avión privado se estrelló frente a la costa oeste de Florida, mientras era piloteado por el beisbolista.
De acuerdo al alguacil del Condado de Pasco, Chris Nocco, quien confirmó en rueda de prensa que la avioneta ICON A5, de un solo motor y propiedad de Halladay, se estrelló, sostuvo que el cuerpo del pitcher fue hallado en la escena del accidente, donde no se hallaron otros sobrevivientes.

Halladay, quien se retiró del béisbol hace casi cuatro temporadas, acumuló un récord de 203-105, con una efectividad de 3.38., en sus 16 años de carrera con los Azulejos de Toronto, equipo con el que jugó 12 temporadas, y con los Filis de Filadelfia, con el que jugó cuatro.
Es recordado por lanzar un juego sin hits en los playoffs con los Filis de Filadelfia, hazaña que llegó 54 años después de que Don Larsen se adjudicara un juego perfecto para los Yankees de Nueva York en la Serie Mundial de 1956.
Además de sus Cy Young alcanzados en dos oportunidades (2003 y 2010), fue ocho veces All Star y acumuló 203 victorias en temporada regular.
