BBC's Big Ambitions for Latin America

 

The British Broadcasting Company (BBC) has “big ambitions” for Latin America, it announced today at the opening of new headquarters for the region, based in Miami.

 

Speaking at the event, the president of Global Markets at BBC Worldwide, Paul Dempsey, said “When you take the power of a global company like the BBC, one of the biggest content producers and distributors in the world, and you combine it with the expertise of the team here, who really understands the audiences they are serving, there is no doubt that the next stage of our journey is to become an even bigger force in the region."

 

The BBC, free to license payers in the United Kingdom where it is based, uses its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, to subsidize its “public service mission,” and bring its highly reputed programming to international audiences.

 

BBC Latin America's new Miami base will give the company reach into 18 extra countries in the Americas, as well as house staff working on its Spanish-language news website, BBC Mundo.
