111 day soorya festival

       Over 2000 artists from across the nation have participated in the 40th soorya festival . An array of cultural programmes was showcased during the 111 day long cultural festival that coincides with the 40th anniversary celeberation of  soorya.

      The first phase of the  film festival was held from sep 21 to October10. The dance and music festival  was held from oct 1 to 10. K.J. Yesudas performed the inaugural concert  at AKG Hall on Octo 1. Leading artists Meenakshi  sreenivsan, Rama Vaidhyanathan,  Nithyashree Mahadevan and Manju Varrier. performed in  the festival.

      The first time, soorya festival featured a Jugalbhandhi festival this year from Oct.6 to 9. Jalsaghar dedicated to Hindustan music was held at YMCA auditorium from Oct. 21 to 31. Meet the masters programme will be held from Nov 23 to 25.  It will be a tribute to actor OM Puri and a series of his films will be screened.

     The grand finale of the festival be on Jan 11, 2018 when chandu menons masterpiece Indulekha will be staged as a dance music drama.
