The attack was "an aggression against the peaceful people of Paracho," the leader of the PRD party said.

Stalin Sanchez Gonzalez, the mayor of the Paracho, a municipality in Michoacan, Mexico, was shot and killed outside his home on Friday morning, the governor of Michoacan, Silvano Aureols reported.

The details of the attack are still unknown, although five men who are presumed to have been the attackers are being searched for by police.

According to police reports, Sanchez Gonzalez was attacked by a group armed with AK-47 weapons when he left his house at around 9:40 AM.

My sincerest condolences to the family members and friends of Stalin Sanchez Gonzalez, whose life was taken this morning,” Aureoles tweeted. The governor, who is of the same party as Sanchez Gonzales, has said that there will not be impunity in this case and has ordered investigations.

The mayor, who was elected in 2015, was a member of the Party of Democratic Revolution (PRD). The leader of the party, Carlos Torres Piña, condemned the attacks, saying it was an attack on the people of Paracho.

“Today's cowardly attack was not only committed against a simple, sociable and hardworking person, but also was an aggression against the peaceful people of Paracho,” Torres Piña said.

The PRD tweeted a demand for justice and clarification of the murder.
