The Colombian National Human Rights Coordinator, Cristian Delgado, indicated that 37 ex-combatants have already been killed in seven months.
A new victim joins the list of ex-rebels killed in Colombia, Henry Meneses Ruiz, a former militant in the Alternative Revolutionary Force of the Colombia (FARC) turned social leader.
Meneses Ruiz was murdered this Friday in the northern region of the Department of Cauca which lies in the southwest of Colombia.
The Colombian National Human Rights Coordinator, Cristian Delgado, indicated that 37 ex-combatants have already been killed in seven months. The Coordinator reminded Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos that the peace accords also protect the lives of former combatants.
Amid rampant political violence in the South American country, social movements and the FARC demand security and protection from local authorities and the Colombian government. The groups have also demanded a crackdown on paramilitaries groups that target their members.
President Juan Manuel Santos has said in the past that his government is committed to upholding the terms of the peace agreement that would put an end to the Colombian conflict that has been ongoing for over 50 years.
