Fleeing the Barrio 18 Gang in El Salvador

IN PICTURES: Families in El Salvador have been forced from their homes because of gang violence.

Around 15 families have fled their homes due to death threats from Barrio 18 gang members.

The transnational gang burned down homes and threatened to kill residents of Caluco, a small town in the west of El Salvador.

Barrio 18, now deemed a terrorist organization, has roots in the street gangs of Los Angeles, with tens of thousands of current members in the United States—spreading to El Salvador after the group's members were deported en masse.
