The suspected murderer and rapist of an 11-year-old Mexican girl has been found dead in the state of Mexico's Neza Bordo prison.
Octavio Sánchez Razo died in his cell which he shared with three other inmates.
According to the state security commissioner, Eduardo Valiente, the cell was in the observation area.
“In these cells, there are no cameras … there are people involved nearby these cells who will be questioned by the Public Ministry,” Valiente said in a media interview.
“From what I know and have observed, I can categorially rule out any that he was the subject of any physical or sexual aggression from the inmates.”
The suspect was arrested last Friday for the murder and rape of Valeria Teresa Gutierrez, an 11-year-old girl from Nezahualcoyotl whose body was found June 11.
The state Attorney-General’s office said his autopsy revealed genetic material that matched the victim's.
Officials also announced that the warden and the security chief of the Neza Bordo prison in which Sánchez was being held have been dismissed and 16 guards are under investigation.
In the last two years, at least five prisoners have died at the Neza Bordo prison.
