Ramadan Mubarak! Despite Siege, Gazans Welcome Holy Month

The people of Palestine continue to remain resilient and full of life in defiance of years of trauma inflicted by the Israeli occupation.

Palestinians in Gaza stocked up on food on Sunday (June 5), the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

They joined many of the world's Muslim community—some 1.5 billion people in more than 50 countries—who are preparing to observe the sacred month, due to start in many Islamic countries on Monday (June 6).

However, residents of the embattled Gaza coastal strip are once again marking Ramadan under the shadow of a harsh Israeli blockade.

Despite the pain of martyred and injured loved ones resulting from successive Israeli offensive operations against the long-suffering Palestinians, the Muslim fasting month is an occasion for joy, celebration, and family gatherings in Gaza.
